Mamata has no one to blame but herself for less investment This refers to the report Big money for Modi, Didi loses out (January 27). It is not surprising that Gujarat has left West Bengal far behind in getting investments from Indian and multinational companies. This is because of the declining popularity of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Bane-rjee. She has no one to blame but herself. Banerjee seems interested more in criticising the UPA’s policies than addressing the several problems in her state. Her remarks, on rape, death of children in public hospitals or the prime minister, have made her appear as an irresponsible and untrustworthy leader.

Headley should be tried in India

With reference to the editorial Always look at the big picture (Our Take, January 26), the punishment meted out to David Coleman Headley, a conspirator in the Mumbai terror attack case, by the US is not enough. Washington should have extradited Headley to New Delhi and allowed us to try him in our courts. Headley, like Ajmal Kasab, the only surviving perpetrator of the attack, should have been awarded the death penalty.

Criticising without understanding

I am disappointed not by Ashis Nandy’s remark on reservations at the Jaipur Literature Festival but the manner in which the media and certain individuals have distorted it (Caste line lands sociologist in soup, makes Maya mad, January 27). They should not have taken his words out of context or jumped to conclusions without understanding the real meaning of Nandy’s remark.
