Police sources said that Mehra had returned to duty a month ago after his suspension was revoked. He was suspended after he was found drunk on duty at Nainital high court.
Police sources further revealed that though Mehra's suspension was revoked, a departmental inquiry was still underway. It is also being considered if ''the constable was in depression due to the ongoing inquiry".
The incident has sent ripples in the department. After getting the information, director-general of police Satyavrat Bansal, SSP Keval Khurana, and other top cops rushed to the Doon hospital, where Mehra's body was kept. Terming the incident as unfortunate, the DGP said, "It appears that the constable was in depression."
