A criminal like Hafiz Saeed is no one to make SRK any offer
The report SRK should move to Pak: Hafiz Saeed (January 28) is very disconcerting. It seems surprising that Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed has asked Shah Rukh Khan to move to Pakistan if he feels insecure in
India. Our fraternity of Indian Muslim scholars condemn his remarks. As someone who is a terrorist and for someone who does not know Islamic law, Saeed has no right to declare himself the guardian of Indian Muslims. Criminals like him shouldn’t call themselves Muslims.

Not a juvenile by any yardstick
This refers to the report It’s official: Young rape beast a minor (January 29). It seems self-evident that a person who can commit a crime as heinous as the December 16 rape is not a child, mentally or physically. If his certificate shows him to be a day short of 18 years on the day of the crime, our entire system starts to seem farcical. In a country where birth certificates are issued years after one’s birth, should these documents be relied upon, and that too in such circumstances?

Time to form 2014 strategies
In his article, Gear up for the battle (January 29), Ashok Malik is right in stating that politicians must not pander to the lowest common denominator, be it the lure of crony capitalism or the appeasement of minorities. The UPA may find popularity by following the latter path, but its standards of governance risk being compromised. Even though the BJP seems divided, projecting Narendra Modi as the 2014 prime ministerial candidate can help it win more seats in next year’s general elections. It is essential for the party to prioritise his role.
