In less than a month of the exit of Sanjay Kapoor, CEO, India and South Asia, the company on Tuesday informed stock exchanges that the new proposal will be considered by the board of directors of the company in its meeting on Friday.
Gopal Vittal will be appointed as an additional director in the board, and would be joint managing director.
“Both Vittal and Kohli will report to Sunil Mittal,” said a spokesperson of the company.
Kohli is currently heading overseas operations of Bharti Airtel. He may head both domestic and global operations, said sources. The company has been registering decline in profit growth for the last 52 consecutive quarters.
The rejig comes at a time when the company is looking to improve profitability while increasing both 3G and 4G subscriber base. It is also grappling with uncertain regulatory environment and bleeding business in Africa.
