Supporters of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Gopinath Munde have started floating his name for the post of the state unit chief. Senior party leaders from the Munde camp met the leader to discuss the strategy on Wednesday.   Munde, who was in Beed owing to the death of his younger brother, came to the city on Wednesday. Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Eknath Khadse, former state unit chief Pandurang Phundkar and others met Munde and reportedly discussed the appointment of the new state head of the party. The three-year term of the incumbent chief Sudhir Mungantiwar ends in the next few days.

Sources said Mungantiwar is not keen on a second term. The other names discussed were party MP Raosaheb Danve, MLA Devendra Fadnavis and Pandurang Phundkar.
