The two Palghar girls, who were arrested for a Facebook comment critical of the shutdown following Bal Thackeray's death, have been absolved of all charges against them after the Palghar court on Thursday accepted the closure report filed by police in the case.

Sudhir Gupta, lawyer for the girls, said judicial magistrate first class Palghar, VS Yadav accepted the 'C' summary closure report. The 'C' summary report indicates that the complaint was false but was filed on a misunderstanding and without malicious intent.

The court rejected the petition filed by local Sena leader Bhusan Sankhe, the complainant, against the report.

The Palghar police had come under fire after they arrested Shaheen Dhada and Rinu Srinivasan on charges of promoting hatred on November 20 after Shaheen posted an update on her Facebook profile denouncing the Mumbai bandh on November 19 in the aftermath of the demise of Bal Thackeray.
