The Delhi high court on Thursday asked the Delhi Police to consider launching an SOS application for women in distress on the lines of the one brought out by Mumbai Police.

The court directed the Delhi Police to take the help of IT companies such as Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services in this regard.

The Mumbai Police had launched the SOS service titled 'ICE (In Case of Emergency)' on January 6, following the recent gang rape. The service is available for android devices only.

How the app works?
A user can add multiple numbers to the application under 'My emergency numbers' in categories such as SOS, family, work, doctor, police station, hospital and even fire station.

Clicking on a red SOS (Save Our Souls) button on the homepage sends out a distress message to all the numbers you have added to the 'SOS' category in 'My Emergency Numbers'.

The message will say that you are in an emergency and will also provide your location if the same can be determined.
