A court in Muzaffarpur has awarded capital punishment to two persons for the rape and subsequent murder of a minor girl about three years ago.

The additional district and sessions judge said he was awarding the death sentence to Chandan Sahni and Shiv Kumar alias Tamatar Sahni because the case fell in the ‘rarest of rare’ category.

The two had raped a minor girl in Vaishali district of north Bihar on May 24, 2010, when the victim had gone there to attend the wedding of her cousin.

There the cousin’s driver, Sahni, accompanied by his friend Shiv Kumar, decoyed her into going to a secluded place with them, and raped her before slitting her throat.

The police later found her body under a culvert. This is the second death sentence in Bihar in a week for rape and murder.
