On Wednesday, the director general of police and divisional commissioners were asked to submit their reports before the SHRC by March 12. A member of the commission said a notice has also been sent to the police officer investigating the case.
Of late, incidents of violence against women have shown a marginal rise in the state. But instances of acid attacks have been rare.
The International Forum for Justice and Human Rights has now urged the SHRC to stop the easy availability of acid. Its petition has prompted the SHRC to demand a report from the government regarding manufacture, storage and sale of acid in the state. The forum wanted the users of acid to be made accountable.
