The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday countered senior Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar's suspicion that electronic voting machines (EVMs) were hacked at the hands of SAD cadres during the 2012 assembly elections.
SAD spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said such allegations were an insult to the public mandate. Cheema said if SAD men had tampered with EVMs, then how had Congress leaders such as Capt Amarinder Singh and Rajinder Kaur Bhattal won in the elections last year.

Stating that the Congress had lost the mandate of the people, Cheema cited the defeat of the Sarna brothers in the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) elections.

"People of Punjab can understand the mental agony of the Congress leadership as the latter has suffered one shock after other due to successive defeats at the hands of the SAD in the assembly elections and the DSGMC polls. Now, the Congress is set to receive the worst defeat in the Moga byelection," Cheema added.
