A Nihang Singh, standing astride two horses galloped into hearts of spellbound villagers, who thronged the Kila Raipur open air stadium on Day two of the Kila Raipur Sports Festival on the Friday.
The morning fog could not dampen the spirit of spectators as was evident from their
overwhelming turn out to witness the game. The four-lane bullock cart race was the grand finale of the day's proceedings that included track events, hockey matches and freak circus.
The fastest girl in 100-metre under-19 was Kirandeep Kaur of Jalandhar followed by Amardeep Kaur of Jalandhar and Jaspreet Kaur of Bathinda. In boys under-19 final, Mukesh Kumar of Jalandhar was the fastest followed by Akashdeep Singh of Patiala and Yadwinder Singh of Jalandhar.
As the bullock carts race was approaching, the crowds started thickening and battle cries went up from supporters. However, the starters had their own share of problems, as the bulls broke the cordon even before the race was flagged off.
Meanwhile, Punjab PWD minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon formally inaugurated the sporting extravaganza and announced that all the approaching roads to Kila Raipur would be renovated and reconditioned.
Presiding over the ceremony Darshan Singh Shivalik, MLA from Gill constituency, announced a grant of Rs. 2 lakh to the Grewal Sports Association. Information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari was also present on the occasion.
In Bhagwant Memorial Hockey Gold Cup, Baba Nagandas Academy, Sangrur, beat Dalla Brother's Academy, Moga, by 4-2. Gurdhala Singh scored two goals for the winning team. In the women's section, Bathinda girls beat Sports wing, Kairon, by 3 goals.
In under-17 category, Grewal Academy, Kila Raipur, beat Education Wing, Kila Raipur, by 10-3. In another match, Baba Bakala team beat Gill Academy, Kharar, 5-4. Sarwanjit Singh scored the winning goal breaking the four-all deadlock.
In bullock cart race, 76 participants battled to qualify for the next stage in 19 heats. The players who qualified to the second stage are: Naib Singh of Kalsiaan, Jarnail Singh of Dehlon, Jaskaran Singh of Gujjarwal, Rammi Singh of Mahima Singh Wala, Nirmal Singh of Naulhri, Gurdeep Singh of Lohgarh, Dimpi of Gujjarwal, Raju Bariaa of Assi Kalan, Sukh Nagra Golu of Jodhhaan, Satinder Singh of Kila Raipur, Deepi of Jassowal, Manjinder Singh of Paheerh, Kaur Singh of Bhundan, Raju of Dakha, Inderjit Singh of Jand, Dhur Singh of Lohgarh.

Kabaddi (70 kg-one village open): 1. Natburj beat Kila Raipur 16-13; 2. Nathowal beat Acharwal 16-9; 3. Chhapar beat Jand 16-12 and 4. Kila Raipur (B) beat Butahri 16-13.
Hockey under-17: 1. Jarkhar beat Malwa academy, Ludhiana, 11-6 and Kila Raipur (B) draws Sangrur 4-4.
Athletics, 100-metre sub-juniors boys final: 1. Amritpal Singh of Kila Raipur; 2. Anant Kumar of Muzafarnagar (UP) and Muhamad.
Girls' final: 1. Ruby of UP; 2. Tanveer Kaur of Kila Raipur and Tanushree of U.P
