A 55-year-old woman, injured on January 30 during a clash between two groups over the alleged harassment of a girl, succumbed to her injuries on Friday.

The woman died at GTB Hospital in Delhi, where she was being treated. According to police, she suffered severe injuries when she, along with some other residents of Kalyan Puri, tried to prevent a group of men from harassing a 20-year-old woman in her locality. The accused, who were from Sangam Vihar colony at Khoda, also thrashed the father of the 20-year-old woman.

The incident took place after three men came to the house of the young woman and hurled abuses at her. After a brief clash and intervention of local residents, the three men left the spot threatening the area residents of dire consequences.

The police said that within an hour, 10 men, along with prime accused Sunny, 22, came to the young woman's house, where some locals had gathered to resist their move. During the clash, the men armed with sticks and rods beat up eight local residents, including 55-year-old Munesh Devi.

The residents of Kalyan Puri alleged that they had seen Sunny several times in their locality and that he had been harassing the young woman for several months.

"The man (Sunny) had been harassing the young woman for the past few months. Even the family of the accused shifted from Kalyan Puri to Khoda due to his behaviour. The prime accused has been arrested and a hunt is on to nab other culprits," superintendent of police SS Yadav said.
