The Congress party's drubbing in the last year's assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, particularly the unexpected results in the Gandhi family pocket-borough had forced Rahul to increase the frequency of his visits to his constituency.
Despite a high-pitched campaign led by Rahul himself, the Congress was relegated to the fourth position in UP, winning 26 out of 403 seats. It drew a blank in Rae Bareli, represented in Lok Sabha by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, and also in Sultanpur but managed to win two out of five in Amethi.
Rahul's sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra too has stepped up her interactions with party workers in Rae Bareli and meets them frequently in Delhi and in the constituency.
The visit will follow his extensive deliberations with party office-bearers on the organisational functioning. He has so far heard the views of 31 out of the total 57 party functionaries.
As Rahul will be busy interacting with party cadre in Amethi, Sonia would travel to Maharashtra on February 6 to launch a health scheme in Palghar.
