In a major relief to the train drivers, the railway ministry has decided to provide toilet facility in the engine cabins of all the major trains.
Neeraj Sharma, chief public relation officer, northern railways, said for the first time the loco pilots would have the toilet facility in their cabins.

He said: "We have designed a sample toilet in the locomotive and fitted a wash basin in the diesel engine. The pilot project fitting has been done at Charbagh workshop in Lucknow and there are plans to do the same in other locomotives especially in long journey trains with lesser stoppages", he said adding that the sample report has been sent to the ministry.

He said that drivers have been demanding such facility for a long time. Earlier, there was no such facility in locomotives and drivers had to use toilets at stations stoppages depending upon the halt time.

He said: "Such facility will benefit train drivers as they have to face problems especially in longer journeys wherein at some routes the stoppage is after six hours."
