A five-year-old girl belonging to a migrant labourer family was allegedly raped by a man known to her father at her home in Rupnagar on Monday. The police have arrested the suspect.


The father of the victim was not at home when the suspect, who hailed from former's native place in Smastipur and was a frequent visitor to his house, allegedly raped the girl.

When the girl's father returned home, he found her bleeding and took her to the local civil hospital. Doctors referred her to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chgandigarh. Her private parts were damaged, a doctor said.

Rupnagar senior superintendent of police Inder Mohan Singh said a case under Section 376 of the IPC has been registered against the suspect, Manoj Misher.
