A 71-year-old record was washed away Tuesday as Delhi recorded its wettest 24-hour spell of February rain. The showers also effectively spelled the end of winter as the chill is not expected to be back. At the end of the torrential downpour that started early Monday and carried on till the next morning, the Capital had recorded 46mm of rainfall — the most in a day since 1942.

The Met forecast more showers in the next 24 hours, which would bring temperatures down by 2-3 degrees Celsius from Tuesday’s levels of 18°C (maximum) and 13°C (minimum). However, it added that conditions would stabilise after Wednesday.

“This kind of rain is caused by western disturbances. It will last only a day and there will be a reversal from Wednesday afternoon,” said Met director BP Yadav.
The rain brought with it the usual problems — jams, waterlogging and load-shedding.
