The first phase of the National Dairy Plan (NDP) -- a central scheme funded by the World Bank--  covering 8 states has been implemented by National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Chairman of NDDB Amrita Patel, while talking on the scheme's progress, said 13 of the 14 major dairying states are on board, while discussions are on with Bihar.
An outlay of Rs. 130.71 crore for the year 2012-13 has been approved by National Steering Committee for the project.

Elaborating, Patel said, "This outlay covering 49 proposals — which includes progeny testing, pedigree selection and village based milk procurement systems, among others —  from eight states, i.e. Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Maharashtra have been approved by the steering committee.”
