The municipal corporation continued to remove illegal structures on Wednesday from both sides of the Sirhind road here.
During the course of the campaign, nearly 40 illegal buildings have been brought down. Contingents of police, doctors, and firefighters accompanied the demolition team. "The action was taken on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana high court," municipal town planner Nirmal Preet Singh, has confirmed. "Mainly, the shops were removed for widening the road."

The MC had conducted demolition after giving prior notice to the illegal occupiers, said Nirmal Preet Singh, adding that the shops had been constructed in violation of the building laws. "We demolished 67 structures in the day," the town planner said. "We'll continue to clear 100 metre radius from the centre of the road."

On Tuesday, the municipal corporation had razed nearly 50 illegal buildings.
