The department of income tax (I-T) has collected Rs. 1,930 crore from the Ludhiana commissionerate in the current financial year and is all set to achieve the target of Rs. 2,876 crore.
While addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, GS Randhawa, chief commissioner of I-T, Ludhiana, said compared to total I-T collection of Rs. 2,343 crore in last financial year, the department had set a target of 22.7% total growth.

He said compared to national increase of 15.25% in the target for this financial year, Ludhiana commissionerate, comprising Ludhiana and Jalandhar districts, had set the target that was about 7% more than the national target and hoped that they would achieve the target in the remaining time period of the fiscal.

Randhawa said the I-T department, under the cash collection of arrears had collected Rs. 32 crore against the set target of Rs. 66 crore this financial year.

Stressing that the department was speedily converting the whole I-T returns mechanism from manual to online, he said out of the total 1,90,620 income tax returns, 1,80,768 returns had been processed so far.

He hoped that total computerisation in the department would be achieved in the coming few years.
“The commissionerate has witnessed a rise of 73.29% in IT collection from top 100 corporate houses by December 2012 compared to corresponding period in 2011,” he said.
