Three employees of Larsen and Toubro (L&T), including an engineer and a contractor, were arrested by the Sahar police on Thursday in connection with the collapse of an under-construction bridge in Marol, Andheri (East). Three labourers were killed and six injured after a 35m-long slab of the bridge near the Hyatt Regency collapsed around 11.10pm on Wednesday.
The arrested — Subhaiyya Velu Shravanan, 34, engineer, Pechimuttu Subramaniam, 27, supervisor, and Lakhvir Singh, 27, foreman  — were released on bail later in the day.

“Action will be taken if we need to make more arrests,” said Jaiprakash Giram, senior inspector, Sahar Airport police station.
Preliminary probe revealed that the slab fell on nine labourers working at the site. During rescue operations, Ram Balidas, 44, Jaichandra Mandal, 30, and Santosh Das, 26, were found dead.

L&T released a statement stating that the company was probing the cause of the accident. “In an unfortunate incident on February 6 around 11pm at the construction site of the elevated access road at Marol, one of the segments being installed slipped resulting in dislocation of a span…There were three fatalities and six people who were injured were rushed to hospitals. All necessary help is being provided to the affected and their families,” it said.
