The Lazy Dog is a refreshing change from the usual pubs scattered around the city if what you’re looking for is some light jazz music and a cheap drink or two. It’s well-lit and has a very lively feel to it. And most importantly, the drinks on the menu are extremely reasonably
In case you’re wondering, because we sure were, the place gets its title from a late Dalmatian called Tsar, who belonged to one of the investors.
As an introductory deal, the pub is currently offering its guests a chance to purchase a membership or patron card, which will get you a 50 per cent discount on all the available drinks on the menu — beer, wine, cocktails, mocktails and hard liquor.
The music is played at the right volume. Unlike other joints, this one is ideal for those who get talkative after a drink or two, but only on weekdays, which is also when you might not need to worry about getting a table. On weekends, consider yourself lucky if you can even make space for your feet at the bar.
Another warning: the music too gets uncharacteristically loud on Friday and Saturday nights.
From the cocktail menu, we first tried the Seven Island Iced Tea (originally for R620), which was dangerously potent and completely unsuspecting. The Khus Margarita ( R620), which seemed like an interesting concoction, had a distinct flavour.
The Mutton Seekh Kebabs were delicious and succulent, going by regular pub standards.
We left the pub feeling satisfied with the experience, which was completely worth its price. The good news is that in the coming weeks, the Lazy Dog plans to set up branches in Yari Road, Powai and Lower Parel too.
