The preliminary investigation of police cite claims of the girl’s family who maintained that she complained of burning sensation in her left leg during the journey. Police believe that the girl possibly was shot at during celebratory firing and her family concocted a fake story to avoid police action.
A senior police officer said the matter came to light after they received a call from the GTB hospital saying a girl was admitted there with bullet injury in her thigh.
Disha Verma, a resident of Gautampuri at New Seelampur, was on her way to West Jyoti Nagar in a car to attend a wedding.
“On the way she complained of burning sensation in her left leg on which her father Neeraj found her bleeding. They immediately rushed her to a nearby nursing home in Shahdara where doctors referred her to GTB hospital after first-aid treatment. Doctors at GTB hospital confirmed that she had suffered a gunshot wound and took out the bullet,” said the senior officer, adding the girl’s family denied having personal enmity with anyone.
Disha’s mother Dolly, brother Himanshu, sister Rism and grandmother Rani Devi were also in the car, and they too have narrated a similar story.
