Haryana which boasts of world-class healthcare facilities, including those based in Gurgaon that have given impetuous to the medical tourism, has immense potential to meet the demand of talent pool for this fast-growing sector. This was said by Dr Naresh Trehan, chief managing director of Medanta-The Medicity, at the Hindustan Times's Leaderspeak@ht Conclave held in Gurgaon on Friday.

The noted cardiovascular expert, who was one of the panelists at the conclave, also suggested ways for setting up of mini-Medanta models for the rural areas of the state.

"Unfortunately the fast-growing health sector does not get the required talent pool as many fresh graduates from some medical colleges fail to deliver in terms of treating normal ailments, forget about serious ones. Haryana has the required infrastructure such as Rohtak Medical College and others. Haryana just needs to bolster up its infrastructure and bring together the facilities required for cr eating the quality talent pool for the healthcare sector," Dr Trehan added.

Putting forth his idea of spreading the wings of super-specialty healthcare in rural areas, Dr Trehan said, "With the help of the government, private hospitals can easily set up their mobile ambulances in villages for prompter action in case of emergencies. This can be made possible by creating a network of primary health centers in villages, civil hospitals and private hospitals in cities."

According to Trehan, the network would help in providing better accessibility of healthcare in remote areas.

Accredited social health activists (ASHA) at public health centres will coordinate with the private hospitals.
