In an alleged case of mismanagement by civic authorities, birth registers at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s crematoriums are being used to record deaths in the city.
The Shiv Sena filed a complaint into the issue after late party chief Bal Thackeray’s death was allegedly recorded in a birth register.

Mayor Sunil Prabhu, on Friday, issued a statement announcing a probe into the allegations.

 He said that necessary action would be taken against officials responsible for it.

“We have been told that the word ‘birth’ on the register was scratched off and replaced with ‘death’ to use it. This is a serious case of negligence. Action would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future,” said Yashodhar Phanse, leader of the house in the BMC and senior Shiv Sena corporator.
