“All six police personnel were produced before the court, and we have obtained custody of them. They also have been suspended, and a charge sheet against them will be filed,” said inspector general of police (law and order), Deven Bharti. Bharti also said that more arrests would follow on the basis of evidence that investigators will gather.
Those investigating the case are studying the possibility of one or two media persons being arrested for their complicity. Based on evidence that is being assimilated, they could be arrested, police sources said.
Police conduct had come under criticism from social activists, and Muslim organisations for the manner in which local police officers handled the situation. A scuffle at a local eatery, and an altercation between members of two communities, saw violence breaking out in Dhule.
