Twenty-two people, including six eunuchs, were rounded up during a raid conducted by the zonal DCP at a party held in a private bungalow, Seashells, in Aksa in the wee hours of Sunday. Police claim those rounded up had been indulging in ‘indecent behaviour’.
DCP (Zone 11)
Mahesh Patil and his team conducted the raid around 2.05am, after receiving a tip-off. Those rounded up were fined Rs6,250 each for obscenity under the Bombay police Act (BPA) and let off.
Inspector Suladas Bhoye of Malwani police station said officers who raided the bungalow, found the group playing loud music and drinking alcohol though they had not taken police permission for the party. A large number of empty beer bottles were found lying all over, he said adding that the police were trying to ascertain the identity of the owner of the property, located on Madh-Marve road.
“After we raided the place, we found the men and the eunuchs in compromising positions. They were soon rounded up and after we took a headcount, they were booked for indecency and partying without permission and were penalised under the provisions of Bombay Police Act,” said Suladas Bhoye, inspector at Malwani police.
The police charged them under sections 110 (indecent behaviour) and 33(W) (organising a party without permission) of the Bombay Police Act and fined Rs5,000 each for indecent behaviour and Rs. 1,250 each for partying without permit.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the party was organised by one Gauda Varisht Nanda, an event manager. Nanda had organised the party for his friends and had rented the bungalow. News of the party spread through word of mouth, and 22 persons turned up. Nanda’s friends brought the eunuchs along and were found behaving indecently with them, the officer said.
“We learnt that the owner rents out his bungalow to film production houses for shoots and for parties. We are trying to trace him for further investigations,” Bhoye said.
The police have released all 22 partygoers.
