Bhopal Division Cricket Association (BDCA) election is mired in controversy again. Soon after association chairman Arif Aqueel announced February 13 as the date of fresh election on Monday, the association spokesperson Rajat Mohan Verma said Aqueel was no longer a member of BDCA and he had
already been expelled from the association.
Verma made an appeal to the BDCA members not to take part in any unauthorised meeting otherwise disciplinary action will be taken against them. He said the BDCA president Dhruv Narayan Singh has already declared the date of election as February 24.
Aqueel had been gunning for incumbent BDCA president Dhruv Narayan Singh ever since Singh was caught in a controversy in connection with RTI activist Shahela Masood murder case.
Earlier, the BDCA election date was fixed on June 1, 2012. But there came an order from joint registrar firms and society, which restrained holding of annual general meeting (AGM) of the association on technical grounds.
Arif Aqueel later alleged that despite announcement of the election date, Singh misused his position to get the order from the registrar firms and society in a bid to continue as the president, fearing defeat in election.
A few months ago, the BDCA inducted more than 100 new members. Aqueel’s camp saw the membership drive as Singh’s tactics to win the election before the date was announced.
Aqueel had been lying low for sometime, giving an indication that he has patched-up with Singh but Monday’s development has broken that myth. Arif Aqueel said, “We have conducted managing committee meeting and took an unanimous decision of organising annual general meeting (AGM) at Hameedullah Khan Community Hall Bal Vihar on February 13.
BDCA election would be conducted in the general body meeting in the presence of MPCA observer. In the meeting, all the 138 members will vote for the new president.”
He said he had not received any type of termination letter. “Why they should release the letter on the day when we are organising the press conference.” Along with Arif Aqueel, other members including Aruneshwar Singh Deo, Rafat Mohammad Khan, Inam Ullah Khan Lodhi, SN Pehelwan, Ashfaq Mohammad Khan, Pramod Patel appealed to the members to take part in the election.
When contacted Dhruv Narayan Singh said, “They have no rights to conduct the managing committee meeting. Only president can call the AGM.”
