Gurbhej Singh, in charge of the crime investigation agency (CIA) at Ferozepur, led the team that arrested the man during patrolling at Palla Megha village. The police found Muara Ram to have history of theft and smuggling poppy husk. In August 2012, when lodged at sub jail in Fazilka, he took the plea of medical ailment and shifted to the Civil Hospital in Fazilka, where he dodged security and fled.
After arrest on Tuesday, Muara Ram led the police to 30 litres of aesthetic antihydrerate, a chemical used in the preparation of heroin. "A tractor taken away in robbery 10 days ago was recovered from Muara Ram," said the SSP. Muara and his brother, Chinder, were involved in the robbery."
Muara Ram is charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and a hunt for his accomplices were on.
