The Sunday's stampede at the Allahabad railway station could have been averted had the authorities paid heed to a set of recommendations drawn up a decade ago in the aftermath of a similar tragedy in Lucknow.

The government-appointed panel that probed the 2002 Charbagh railway station stampede, which killed over 21 people, had recommended setting up a 'hoarding area' outside the stations to prevent crowd build-up inside.

Temporary zigzag barricading to streamline passenger flow, was also recommended.
