Angry with her refusal to give them her project, three girls and their male friend allegedly kicked and punched a 17-year-old girl outside the SNDT College in Matunga on Tuesday.
The victim, a Class 11 student, had a fight with the three girls over the project on Saturday. They
called her up on Tuesday and asked her to meet them outside the college. The trio who came to the spot with a 25-year-old man allegedly humiliated the victim publicly. They then allegedly beat her up.
Yograj Nadar, district president (south central), National Student Union of India, said, “The girl was kicked on her private parts, punched and pushed by the three girls and the boy. The police were not willing to register her case.”
Suresh Parab, senior police inspector, Matunga police station, said, “We have registered an FIR against the victim’s three classmates and the 25-year-old unidentified man. According to the complaint, the accused attacked the victim because she refused to help them with her project. We are investigating if there is any other reason behind it. We suspect the attack to be a result of some rivalry.”
“The victim, who lost her parents while she was young, lives with her grandparents. She works as domestic help to run the family and sponsor her education,” said her friend.
The victim was taken to the Sion hospital, where she is recuperating. “The girl has blunt abdominal and chest injuries. She has no internal injuries. Her ultrasound and X-ray reports are normal. She is under observation,” said Dr Rakesh Verma, assistant dean, Sion hospital.
The police have registered a case under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), section 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and section 506 part II (criminal intimidation).
