Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday convened a meeting of the leaders all the major parties at his 5-Kalidas Marg residence to seek their cooperation. “We are ready to hold a longer session of the legislature to take up the issues of public interest for discussion and find a solution,” said the chief minister.
The Bahujan Samaj Party, the leading opposition group in both the houses of the state legislature, however, boycotted the chief minister’s meeting. “We did what an opposition party should do under the prevailing circumstances,” said leader of opposition Swami Prasad Maurya, adding, “We are getting in touch with the leaders of other opposition parties for floor coordination.
The BSP will raise the Kumbh tragedy and the law and order issue more aggressively during the forthcoming session.” Congress Legislature Party leader Pradeep Mathur said his party would also corner the state government for its laxity in handling the the crowd in Allahabad.”
Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey on Wednesday also held separate meeting with the leaders of all the political parties to seek their cooperation. “I sought their cooperation for smooth conduct of the business of the House,” said the Speaker adding, the state government proposes to present the state budget in the House on February 19. The motion of thanks to the Governor’s address will also be taken up on February 19 later in the day, he said.
