Continuing with its drive to check the misuse of government houses on account of sub-letting or their utilisation for commercial purposes, a team of the house allotment committee and the engineering department conducted surprise checks in Sectors 20 and 24.
During the course of checking, 2 cases of sub-letting - one each in both the sectors, and 6 cases of misuse for commercial purposes were found in Sector 24.
 
The department would issue show-cause notices and impose penal rents on the defaulters.

Government employees found guilty of sub-letting would be charged penal rent at the rate of fifty times the normal license fee; the employee would be liable for disciplinary action under the relevant conduct rules. He or she would not be entitled for another allotment during the entire service period.

Any complain regarding sub-letting and misuse of government accommodation could be lodged with the executive engineer, capital project division number 3, Sector 16, Chandigarh.
