Chairman of BRPL and BYPL Lalit Jalan said he had a meeting with Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday where he explained to her “everything” and that she sounded “convinced”.

“The regulatory asset build up of power discoms has touched almost Rs.20,000 crore. The power purchase cost has gone up by 100% in the past three years. That’s why we are unable to pay to Delhi’s generation companies. Even the Delhi electricity regulator has asked the government to do something about it,” Jalan said.

On issue of power cuts, Jalan said there were multiple reasons for unplanned outages such as generation and transmission constraints. “But we never had more than an hour’s power cut anywhere,” Jalan claimed. 

“The CM was concerned about availability of power. We told her we are well equipped to meet the power demand in the coming months.

"On the issue of AT&C losses, we told her, we have managed to achieve almost all the targets set by the power regulator in the past 10 years. We hope to achieve the new targets too,” he added.
