DSP (east) Vijay Kumar said that four youngsters were standing near the gate of a school in Sector 20 around 2pm and indulging in hooliganism. Constable Anuj Kumar asked them to move away, following which a heated argument ensued between them. While two youngsters fled the spot, the other two allegedly thrashed the constable.
The judge's son was identified as 22-year-old Tejbir Singh Teji and his accomplice as Abhishek Gill, who is the son of a head constable. Police said that Teji was studying in second year of law course from a private institute in Barwala and putting up at a rented accommodation in the city. Abhishek is a graduate but jobless.
Teji was taken to the Sector 19 police station where, source revealed, he raised a lot of hue and cry. On the other hand, Teji's friends claimed that the complainant constable had in fact slapped the youngster while he was sitting in his car parked near the Sector 20 market.
The police booked the duo under Section 332 of the IPC for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from performing his duty.
In January this year, two persons were booked for assaulting a constable on duty near the Sector 28 market. About a week back, a woman cop was allegedly teased and her husband assaulted by three persons in Sector 27. Last year, at least 12 police personnel were hurt at traffic barricades and in other incidents.
High drama at police stationHigh drama was witnessed at the Sector 19 police station when Tejbir Singh Teji was taken there. He allegedly began shouting and claimed that Chandigarh police could not harm him. The entry of members of the public was restricted at the police station gate while Teji was being questioned.
