As part of a five-day study tour to Gujarat, sponsored by the civic body, members of the BJP-led improvements committee will visit temples in Somnath and Dwarka and spend a day spotting lions at Gir wildlife sanctuary next week.

The itinerary includes a meeting with BJP poster boy Narendra Modi. “The trip dates will be finalised after we get confirmation from Modi’s office,” said Dr Ram Barot, committee chairperson. “We will visit the temples and sanctuary to understand the state’s culture and infrastructure development.”

The 26-member improvements committee largely deals with issues and policies pertaining to civic land.

Members claimed they would study the road works and civic amenities en route to the tourist spots. “We will study the nature of the roads, irrigation projects and other infrastructure,” said BJP corporator and committee member Dnyanmurti Sharma.

A Congress corporator said they were not against the trip, but that it reeked of politics. “It’s an attempt to boost Modi’s image as a man focused on development.”
