Nayyar was booked under the Information Technology (IT) Act, police said.
“Nayyar was in touch with and has reaped illegal benefits from constable Arvind Dabas. The constable has recently been arrested for misusing an email account meant only for official communication with telecom service providers, for about six to eight months,” said a senior police officer.
According to police, Nayyar used to seek Dabas’ assistance for procuring the call records of anyone his clients wished him to during the course of his ‘investigations’ in return for payment.
Police submitted a status report in the case to Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Monday.
They claimed that initial investigations had revealed Dabas had misused an email ID officially assigned to central Delhi’s Mandir Marg police station for communication with telecom operators.
Constable Dabas, officially posted at the Parliament Street police station from where he had been on leave for the past year and a half, had been recently arrested for making an illegal attempt to access Jaitley’s call detail records.
“Dabas operates a small real estate business in Uttrakhand and had approached two local BJP leaders there who had promised him to help him. He claims to have just wanted to gauge their proximity to Jaitley by accessing the latter’s call details,” the officer said.
