Despite police claims of tightened security, miscreants continue to attempt robberies unabated in the city.
In a daring act, unidentified miscreants struck at a yarn trader's house in New Shivaji Nagar in broad daylight on Monday, and stabbed his wife, daughter and their 10-year-old
The accused also cut-off a finger of the girl when she confronted them. However, undaunted, the girl raised an alarm for help from the balcony of her house, making the robbers flee.
Though the robbers ransacked the entire house, the police believe they fled empty handed.
The injured have been identified as Veena (42), her daughter Deepika (22) and their domestic help Chhotu. They were rushed to Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), where their condition is stated to be critical.
Police commissioner Ishwar Singh, ADCP city-1 Nilambri Jagdale and ACP (central) Ramneesh Choudhary reached the spot and started investigations.
According to police officials, two armed robbers barged into the home of yarn trader Naresh Juneja around 3:15 pm.
While Naresh was away to work, along with his son, Raman Juneja, his wife, Veena, was in the house, along with their help, Chhotu. His daughter Deepika and other son Aman were out to attend their tuition classes.
The duo attacked Veena and Chhotu with sharp-edged weapons, before ransacking the rooms for cash and jewellery. Meanwhile, Deepika returned home, following which the accused attacked her as well. When she tried to confront the robbers, they cut off her finger.
However, instead of giving up, Deepika ran to the balcony and raised an alarm, which made the robbers flee.
The police have recovered three handkerchiefs, soaked in blood, and hairs, which they believe belong to the robbers.
Police commissioner Ishwar Singh said nobody saw the robbers coming in or running out of the house. He said the police suspect Laddi, a painter, who had whitewashed the house around six months ago, to be behind the incident. Efforts are on to locate him, Singh added.
The police are also checking if any resident had installed a CCTV camera pointing towards the street. Division number 6 police have registered a case.
