Electricity consumers in the state can heave a sigh of relief as the employees of Haryana power utilities have decided not to strike work on February 19.

The strike call ended on Monday after a meeting between a 10-member delegation of the Haryana Bijli Karamchari Joint Action Committee and the Haryana power minister Capt Ajay Singh Yadav.

“We have called off our strike on February 19 but we would join the nation-wide strike of workers’ union scheduled on February 20 and 21,” said Rajbir Rohilla, vice president of the Haryana state electricity board employees’ union.

“The meeting was held in a very cordial and harmonious atmosphere,” said the power minister, adding that the state government is fully responsive towards the interest of the employees and all their justified demands.

“The employees’ union has also assured that it will sort out their further demands through mutual dialogue,” the minister said

The agitators had several demands that include withdrawal of FIRs against several employees across the state, reinstatement of five dismissed employees, increase in allowances and healthcare facilities.
