Nearly ten months after the trifurcation of the unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), thousands of pensioners in the city are yet to recieve their money. There are 272 municipal wards among the three corporations and each councillor hands out a monthly pension of Rs. 1000 to 700 senior citizens, widows and orphans every month.

According to estimates, there are around 2 lakh pensioners of which a majority have not received the money as most of their applications are still stuck due to the requirement of documents ranging from an income certificate to divorce papers.

Calling the requirement of so many documents 'unnecessary', the House of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation on Monday ordered changes in the application forms. Councillors informed that the officers had failed to disburse the amount despite repeatedly being asked to do so. Only a few wards have received any money in the last 10 months. HTC
