Nearly 20 days after a 64-year-old man was found dead at his house, the police have booked six people on murder charge.
The victim was Nachatar Singh, who was found dead on February 1, 2012, at Chagli village near Dhuri in Sangrur district. The murder case was registered on the complaint of victim's wife Paramjit, who didn't stay with her husband.

The suspects in the case are Lakhwinder Singh, Sukhdeep Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Paramjit Singh, Jagjit Singh and Grumukh Singh.

She alleged that her husband had sold land to the suspects and registry was done on December 18, 2012. The suspects failed to pay money to Nachatar, she alleged.

“The suspects poisoned my husband and left him to die at his house,” she alleged. The police are yet to make any arrest in the wake of lack of proof against the suspects. After Nachatar's death, the police had started inquest proceedings under section 174 of the CrPC.

Superintendent of police Paramjit Singh Goraya said that investigations were on ad the arrests would be made only after police came across evidence against the suspects. “The viscera report of deceased was still awaited to know about the exact cause of death,” SP Goraya said.
