The CBI examined private telecom promoter Shahid Balwa as part of its probe related to alleged taped conversations between a suspended senior public prosecutor of the agency — AK Singh and Unitech managing director Sanjay Chandra, a 2G spectrum scam accused. Balwa is a 2G accused as well.

Balwa was asked by the agency to join its probe as an audiotape containing the purported conversations had referred to his name. Balwa was confronted with the audiotape during his examination; he may be called for certain clarifications according to a CBI source.
