In an incident highlighting police highhandedness, a 22-year-old undertrial lodged in the central jail here has accused some cops of pouring acid on his private parts during interrogation after he refused to grease their hands.
The undertrial, Jatinder Singh, a resident of Ayali village,
was rushed to civil hospital on Thursday following complaint of acute pain in private parts and problem in urinating.
A board comprising two doctors - Dr Jasbir Kaur and Dr Avinash Jindal - examined him at the civil hospital.
Jatinder had wounds on his private parts and was complaining of pain, Dr Kaur said, adding that the board would submit a report on Friday.
Talking to mediapersons at the civil hospital, Jatinder alleged the police arrested him on February 15 from his house and framed him in a fake case of drug peddling.
He alleged that during interrogation the police officials of CIA staff Zone-1 subjected him to third degree torture.
The undertrial alleged that the police officials demanded bribe from him to let him go scot-free. However, when he declined to grease their hands, the cops beat him up and poured acid on his private parts, he claimed.
“On February 17, I was sent to Ludhiana central jail on judicial remand. There I developed pain in private parts and faced problem urinating. Therefore, I approached the jail hospital, who sent me to civil hospital,” said Jatinder.
According to police, CIA Staff Zone-1 had arrested Jatinder with 52 kg of poppy husk from a naka near civil hospital. He was carrying a sack containing the contraband on a scooter.
The police had impounded his scooter as well, and registered a case at the Division Number 2 police station on January 15.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) city-1 Nilambari Jagdale said the accused was arrested on February 15 and a medical examination was conducted on the same day.
He was again medically examined at the civil hospital before being sent to central jail on February 17, and no injuries were reported on any part of his body, she added.
The ADCP claimed that the accused was not harmed in police custody.
