“While 16 buses were reportedly damaged in Wazirpur, two buses were damaged at the Old Delhi Railway Station. At least 11 rioters were detained from the spot,” said a senior police officer.
According to police, the protesters had been inspired by the violence in Noida on Wednesday. A few companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) were deployed near New Ashok Nagar and Kondli village.
Police said 300 personnel were deployed at the Okhla Industrial Area after a handful of rioters, including many minors, vandalised several buildings around 9am. “Nearly six factories and at least five vehicles were vandalised by rioters. We were able to detain six people,” the officer said.
Police personnel were deployed in the area till late in the evening to ensure visibility and allay rioters, who had grouped themselves in formations of five to six to target random commercial establishments.
“We have collected CCTV footage from cameras installed outside the damaged factories and the Old Delhi Railway Station and will subsequently book those involved,” the officer added.
