Police officials said that though the names of Sarkar and Palash were not included in the FIR, they were identified from the CCTV footage inside the police station indulging in vandalism. Early on Saturday morning, police received a tip-off that the six were meeting Bongaon court public prosecutor Samir Das at his home in Pratapgarh.
A huge police force then swooped on the place and took the accused into custody.
“The six had come to my place to discuss ways of legal redressal. They wanted my advise on how to deal with the case in court. The police suddenly barged in to my house and arrested them,” Das said.
Police officials informed that they are closely studying the CCTV footage to identify other attackers as well. On Friday, Trinamool supporters led by former panchayat pradhan of Chhoygaria village Santosh Das went to Bongaon police station to submit a deputation against the present CPI(M) pradhan Paritosh Adhikary of the same village alleging financial irregularities and police inaction on the issue.
Trinamool leaders odged an FIR against Adhikary on February 11. Trinamool supporters demanded to meet the inspector-in-charge (IC) of the Bongaon police station. But on finding the IC was not present, the mob barged into the police station and vandalised it.
