Nearly 3,850 cases were disposed of during the first lok adalat of the new district court complex at Sector 43 here on Saturday.
Punjab and Haryana high court chief justice AK Sikri was also present at the lok adalat during which 21 benches were constituted to handle cases pertaining to motor accident claims, Hindu Marriage Act, civil disputes, civil appeals, compoundable crimes, bank disputes, labour and consumer disputes and traffic violations.

Also, 52 cases were settled under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act. Compensations totaling Rs. 10 lakh were awarded in the MACT cases, while Rs. 32lakh were disbursed under execution petitions. The presiding officer of the labour court settled 33 cases and awarded Rs. 10.5 lakh as compensation to some petitioners. Meanwhile, Rs. 12.4 lakh were realised as fine for traffic violations.

Were booked following 106 complaints and challans present by CBI
A special CBI court, during hearing of cases in lok adalat, disposed of a case under the Immigration Act in which six persons were accused of sending people abroad using forged documents. Acting on behalf of 106 complaints and challans presented by CBI, a case under the Immigration Act had been registered against one PC Bhardwaj and 5 other agents, who allegedly helped in getting visas for people in 2004. But all six were acquitted on Saturday. A similar case under Immigration Act was also disposed of.
