The police were successful in arresting two persons for possessing 17 cartons of illicit liquor in separate cases here.
In the first incident, the sleuths of anti-narcotic and anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing arrested a man and recovered 10 cartons of illicit liquor from his possession at a naka put up at Field Ganj area on Saturday. The accused was identified as Chander Bhan (47) of Field Ganj.

He was carrying two cartons of illicit liquor on his scooter, while another eight cartons were recovered from his tea stall.

Sub-inspector Harbans Singh, in charge anti-narcotic and anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing said the accused was already facing a trial in several cases of smuggling of illicit liquor.  The wing had arrested him two months back for smuggling illicit liquor. The accused told to police that he used to smuggle liquor from Phillaur.

Meanwhile, in another incident, the Shimlapuri police have arrested a man and recovered seven cartons of illicit liquor from his possession at Bhagwan Chowk on Sunday. The accused was identified as Gurmeet Singh alias Rinku.

Inspector Jaswinder Singh said the accused was carrying three boxes on his scooter. The police arrested him and confiscated his scooter as well. Later, the police recovered another four cartons of illicit liquor from his house following the information provided by the accused.
