More than 70 resident doctors at Rajawadi Hospital, Ghatkopar, went on an indefinite strike on Sunday at 1pm to protest against an incident where relatives of a patient who had died, beat up a doctor.

The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) said this was the third incident of relatives hitting on-duty doctors.

The doctors said the strike would continue till the people who hit the doctor were arrested.

"There is need to beef-up security. When the incident happened there were only two guards who were ineffectual in controlling the mob," said a resident doctor, saying no new patients were admitted to the hospital and a few routine surgeries scheduled on Monday were postponed.

Earlier, doctors at Bhabha Hospital, Bandra, went on strike after two resident doctors at the hospital were beaten up.
