Local bodies minister Bhagat Chunni Lal while talking to HT said, "Punjab cabinet has taken the decision to draft a new act under which unapproved colonies fulfilling the required norms would be regularised."
Bhagat added, "Only those colonies will be regularised that fulfil the norms and pay development charges, fixed under the new act. However other illegal colonies would face strict action."He however said that action against all the unauthorised colonies would continue till the act is passed in the assembly. The colonizers have demanded to stop the action against unapproved colonies until the bill is passed.
President of Punjab colonizers and property dealer association, Kultar Singh Jogi while talking to HT said, "Punjab government has promised the colonizers to regularise unapproved colonies and colonizers will also not establish new colonies until the act is introduced by government."
The colonizers were ready to pay development charges to get unapproved colonies regularised, he added. Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) is acting tough on unapproved colonies and taking a strict action against colonies for the past sometime.
Additional chief administrator Baldev Singh has sent a list of unapproved colonies to the police commissioner for suitable action on colonizers.
When contacted ACA Baldev Singh said, "It is a routine action by GLADA to take action against unapproved colonies. After verifying the unapproved colonies the list of colonizers is forwarded to the police commissioner to register a case."
He added that the government is drafting a policy for unapproved colonies but until the policy is passed the action will continue.
