Gurpreet Singh, a convict who was undergoing life sentence in a murder case, attempted suicide in the district jail.
Jail superintendent BS Beesla said that Gurpreet tried to strangulate himself in the bathroom, but vigilant inmates saved him. On the complaint of the superintendent, the city police registered a case against Gurpreet, a resident of Thandian village in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.
