"Rishi looked a little puzzled and asked Taapsee why such an unusual name, which does not sound like a Sikh name, she replied, My aunt kept it," said a source.
From then every one on the sets started calling her Sikhni from South.
When asked about it, Taapsee laughed and said: "Both Davidji and Rishi uncle are Punjabis and maybe that is why he introduced me like this, but now it is a habit for him.
"He always introduces me like this only. Davidji is very sweet and I had a blast shooting for 'Chashme Baddoor' and this is the perfect launch pad any one could have asked for."
A remake of the 1981 film of the same name, the new version of Chashme Baddoor also stars actors Ali Zafar, Siddharth and Divyendu Sharma.
Produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, the film also features Juhi Chawla and Anupam Kher.
The film hits theatres April 5
